The speech and language assessment involves not assessment of the child’s speaking skill, it also involves assessment of other important aspects like play skills understanding, social skills & motor skills.
For diagnosis whether the child is delayed in speech & language, a speech assessment is done with combination of a parent interview and direct testing (eliciting speech sample by pictures, etc) of the child, speech & language.
